World Cancer Day relaunches for 2020 on Facebook Live

‘I Am and I Will’ campaign enters its second year

Header Paragraph

The second year of the ‘I Am and I Will’ World Cancer Day was officially launched this week with a Facebook Live broadcast. Marking five months to go to World Cancer Day and amidst the Global Week of Action for NCDs, the international cancer community and supporters around the world tuned into the live broadcast, where the UICC team offered an inside look into the 2020 campaign.

UICC members, Karen Khoury from the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) and Lucy Balona from the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), also joined live via Beirut and Befordview sharing a valuable country-level perspective of the planning of their own World Cancer Day awareness and fundraising activities.

World Cancer Day will be marking its 20thanniversary since its creation back in 2000, making it an especially exciting year for supporters planning to get involved in 2020.

The official launch provided the opportunity for those tuning in - from FEMAMA, MAHAK, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, the Paris League Against Cancer to the Portuguese League Against Cancer - a first look at the website features and supporting campaign materials, as well as to hear first-hand from the UICC team, including CEO, Dr Cary Adams, on how to make the most of the day.

About World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day every 4 February is the global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). By raising worldwide awareness, improving education and catalysing personal, collective and government action, we're working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equal for all.

Created in 2000, World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for everyone, everywhere to unite under one voice to face one of our greatest challenges in history.

Each year, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world, gathering communities, organisations and individuals in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, places of worship - in the streets and online - acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.

This year's World Cancer Day's theme, 'I Am and I Will', is all about you and your commitment to act. We believe that through our positive actions, together we can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer and noncommunicable diseases by one third by 2030.

Join us on 4 February and speak out and stand up for a cancer-free world.
